Like so many other SWEs right now, I am trying to find ways to enhance my development experience without taking away from the quality of my work or the things I find enjoyable about software engineering, especially as one who very much enjoys the act of pulling something together using well crafted code.
I have found (what I think at least) is a maximum of productivity and enjoyment by primarily using Opencode as a pair programmer and wrangling out the general structure of the solution, before doing probably a 35% AI and 65% me pass of actually writing up the code. Has anyone else found success with this technique of development? I have always been someone who very much enjoys writing well written and designed code, and I am evaluating whether I want to stay in the field as I am concerned that there will not be a place for my style of development in the future. I would appreciate it if others could share their techniques for using AI in the workplace to help me evaluate if my current methods are sustainable career-wise, if there are other ways of using AI that I may also enjoy, or if it might be time for me to look into other fields for the remainder of my career.
I don't post here often so I apologize if I have violated some HN posting conventions with my post, just looking for the opinions of other developers in a place with a bit more of a pro-AI slant than the places I usually hang around.
