None of the other sites are present anywhere. Trying not to assume malice instead of incompetence here, but it&#x27;s really ironic that one of the ecosystems with the strongest ties to the open web, with users creating dozens of new websites every week, isn&#x27;t getting indexed.

I really enjoyed the old Google, the nerd Google, the &quot;don’t be evil&quot; Google... Google Reader, Android, GTalk, etc. It made communication with my friends much easier.I had already been moving everything away from the Google ecosystem for about two years, but Google Photos was the hardest part because it contained so many memories that I wouldn’t risk losing.The final straw was when I accidentally subscribed to Google One with AI, which costs much more than simple additional storage. It’s not that much money for me, but when I found out I couldn’t downgrade, it became a matter of principle to do a Google Takeout of my photos and create a script to import them into Apple Photos (which is also not a nice company, none of them really are) without losing metadata.I also moved them to Backblaze, where I have already had backups for more than five years, and to add even more redundancy, I backed them up to BorgBase using Borgmatic.De-Googled! Now all my photos and videos are in the palm of my hand (~238 GB).
My email client is not bloated. Well, assuming Apple doesn’t decide to shove AI down our throats in Apple Mail.The only Google service I still pay for is YouTube. In exchange, I get zero unbearable ads, many of which promote illegal things like gambling websites. My ad blocker solves the problem on my computer, but on TV the situation is much harder, and I’m old enough to spend my time constantly finding ways around this stuff.

i use claude code daily and measured what pages cost it while doing research. an average wikipedia article, for instance, is 68,240 tokens of raw html (tiktoken); nike&#x27;s homepage is 353,000.claude code&#x27;s built-in webfetch handles the easy case well. it summarizes wikipedia to about 950 tokens and clears cloudflare on some sites like indeed and ticketmaster.
but, and there&#x27;s always a but, on js-rendered and some anti-bot pages it returns nothing.quotes.toscrape.com&#x2F;js gives &quot;no quotes found&quot;; nike.com gives a 403. your agent then dumps the raw html back into context and still fails. 1. Farewell deep focus. Before, I could work in flow state for hours on end. Now, waiting for the prompt to finish introduces constant interruptions, which translates into constant distractions, constant context switch, infinite ideas for endless new projects. My brain is melting. I can literally feel when my neurons start clogging up, forcing me to take frequent pauses just staring outside the window for 10 minutes straight.2. I don&#x27;t own my own projects anymore. Before, I used to understand every single little implementation detail of a project. When a client reported a bug, I immediately knew what and where to fix in the code base. Now, all I can do is to clasp my hands and recite a prayer to the LLM deity, hoping that my voice will be heard.3. The overlords decide my fate. This is a corollary of #2. There&#x27;s an outage every other day, and since I don&#x27;t understand 80% of the code the AI has written, no AI available means it&#x27;s literally impossible for me to work. I depend completely on its availability.4. It&#x27;s mostly right, but never quite there. I really make an effort to write descriptive prompts, extensive documentation, and various design docs. All of this to make it easier for the AI to understand the context and philosophy of the project. I write AGENTS.md, skills and rules. Yet, it can easily do 80% of the work correctly, but it always makes some wrong assumptions that make the other 20% very hard to fix. You have to held it&#x27;s hand over every single little bug that it can&#x27;t automatically fix. Old, already fixed bugs keep resurfacing out of nowhere. It&#x27;s like Penelope&#x27;s shroud: it looks like it fixed the current problem, but an old fix just wen&#x27;t undone. I have 4 years of experience working with React, Next.js, and Node.js.Other than that, I have also done some work with React Native and Three.js.My last contract ended about 3 months ago, and I have been trying to find new work since then. I started with LinkedIn, then reached out through my network, HN threads, Wellfound, Reddit, and other platforms.I also tried reaching out directly to startup founders building things in areas I like, such as worldbuilding and writing-related products. But many of them are also early-stage and do not seem to have much funding or hiring capacity right now.At the moment, I can find around 6–8 jobs per week, but it is not moving forward. I am not based in the US, which is another hurdle.I am open to learning new things. I have also done some work and courses around LLMs and RAG, so I would be open to working in that area too.I’m wondering if I should continue with React&#x2F;Next.js and keep applying, or if it makes sense to switch to another stack.Has anyone been in a similar situation?
